Most of our influence will occur because of the kind of people we become. Therefore, as we strive to be influencers, we must understand our “who.” Paul places a high priority on understanding ourselves. In 1 Timothy 4:16 he instructs Timothy, “Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching …” The New American Standard Version states it this way: “Pay close attention to yourself …” It is interesting to note that Paul is more concerned with Timothy’s life than with his teaching.
